Every big developer starts somewhere small in his career. For GMI Group, that start was not from a construction site. It was a jewellery showroom in Chandigarh. Yes you heard that right ! They were into the jewellery business for a long time. The family behind it came from a small town called Amloh in Punjab.

Every big developer starts somewhere small in his career. For GMI Infra Group, that start was not from a construction site. It was a jewellery showroom in Chandigarh. Yes you heard that right ! They were into the jewellery business for a long time. The family behind it came from a small town called Amloh in Punjab.

Nobody in Amloh expected this family to build one of the tallest homes in Mohali one day but that is what happened in real life. We are sharing the actual journey of the Bansal family. No big claims, no extra drama but just the facts as they are.

This is a behind-the-scenes look at how they started, what they built and how they work, kept honest and easy to understand.Additionally we will introduce the family, the land, the projects and the facts a buyer actually needs before booking.

We also look at what most other write-ups on this builder skip from the group's newer projects to the people running the company day to day. If you are comparing GMI Group against other Mohali developers,  this should give you a fuller picture than a standard project listing.

From Gold to Land A Slow and Quiet Build

The shift from jewellery to property did not happen overnight and it started small. The family initially buy a plot and builds a kothi or a villa and then sell it and use that money to buy another plot and convert it into an independent villa or kothi and then repeat the same process. This went on for years and it happened without any big launches or media coverage.

This early and informal chapter matters as it explains why GMI Infra Group is known for financial goodwill in the local market even today. The family understood land and money long before they used the word developer for themselves.

2018 is The Year the Business Got a Name

In 2018, the family gave their property business a proper name and structure. GMI Infrawas established by Mr. Pardeep Bansal who is the head of the family and led this shift. Furthermore, his sons, Mohit Bansal and Kunal Bansal took the brand into large scale organised development.

The People Behind GMI Group

Real estate looks like a numbers game on paper but in real life, people make the deals, not the numbers. Here is who runs the GMI Group today.

Name

Role

Background

Pardeep Bansal

Started the family's early property dealings after years in the gold and jewellery trade in Chandigarh.

Mohit Bansal

CEO, GMI Infra

Holds dual degrees in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the State University of New York. Leads project planning and business direction.

Kunal Bansal

CFO / Director, GMI Infra

Handles finance and project execution across GMI Group developments.

Source: Mohit Bansal's academic background is reported in an independent profile on RealtynMore(Nov 2025).

Mohit Bansal's Journey of Global Vision and Local Impact

Mohit Bansal, CEO of GMI Infra has completed his studies in Mathematics and Computer Science at The State University of New York with Double Bachelors and later earned a Master's in Mathematics. This global education helped him grow GMI Infra to new heights.

He has met important leaders, including the Governor of Haryana and the British Deputy High Commissioner, discussing infrastructure growth and the India-UK Free Trade Agreement's   benefits for real estate and investment.

He also represented GMI Infra at the CII conference and was Chief Guest at Rotary Chandigarhs's event. Recently, he was honoured by the Governor of Punjab at TiECON Chandigarh 2025, recognizing GMI Infra's innovation and leadership in infrastructure development.

Apart from this, Mohit Bansal spoke at TEDxPEC 2025, sharing his views on real estate, city development, and sustainability. He talked about using innovation and technology to build a better, greener future for urban living.

Additionally he is the Founder of GMI Charitable Trustand also a Mentor at IIT Ropar which adds a gem to his career journey.

Public Recognition and Community Work

A developer's public record says a lot about how it operates outside of sales brochures. Sales pitches always talk about amenities and prices but public records talk about how a company shows up in its own city, at events it does not control.

Here is what shows up in independent and company sources.

  • Kunal Bansal is the Director of GMI Infra and was honoured at the 3rd Master's Badminton Tournamentorganised by the Warriors Sports & Welfare Organization in Mohali, April 2025 for his support of community sports.
  • Mohit Bansal is the CEO of GMI Infra, spoke as a guest at a BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industryconclave on tax law at Hyatt Centric Chandigarh June 28, 2025.
  • GMI Infra took part in National Science Day 2025at Amity University, Mohali, where Mohit Bansal presented awards to students.
  • GMI Infra sponsored the Sports Meet 2025at Panjab University.

A fair note here. These are community, sports and industry recognitions received by the company and by local event pages. These are the goodwill signals which shows the worth of this brand in public.

The 55 Acre Bet in Sector 102-A

Every developer needs one bold move. For GMI Infra Group, that move was securing 55 Acre land on IT City Road (PR7 Road / 200 Ft. Road) in Sector 102-A, Mohali which is a prime stretch connecting Mohali to the airport and Chandigarh.

  • 32 Acres for Industrial & Showroom Plots: This portion was developed into industrial and showroom plots, giving small businesses a proper, well-connected address to grow from.

  • Remaining Land for a Landmark Tower: The rest of the 23 acres is reserved for a high-rise residential tower, planned at Stilt + 43 floors and its a project that would later become Mohali's tallest residential address.

From 55 Acres to a Growing Portfolio of GMI Group’s Project

GMI Infra Group began with a 55-acre footprint in the Zirakpur and Mohali belt and has since expanded into eight distinct developments. It spans residential, commercial, IT and logistics segments which reflect a shift from single-project execution to a diversified, multi-asset real estate portfolio built for long-term regional growth.

GMI Residences: Mohali's Coming Tallest Address

GMI Residences is planned to have 43 floors (plus ground floor) and stand about 149.5 metres tall. Once finished, it will be the tallest residential tower in Mohali. It is built on part of the same 55 acre stretch on IT City Road, Sector 102, Mohali.

The tower will offer 3 BHK, 4 BHK and 5 BHK flats from roughly 3,000 to 7,000 sq. ft., plus a small number of units for penthouses. This plan includes a sports arena and parking for close to 1,200 cars. Furthermore, the renowned Amity University and Plaksha University sit close by which will help both end user demand and rental interest in near future.

GMI Business Park: Built for Bigger Business

GMI Business Park is spread across nearly 90 acres in Sector 102-A and it is planned under the GMADA master plan. This business park is about 15 minutes from Chandigarh International Airport.

The plan is a mix of industrial and commercial plots with close to 45,000 sq. yds. of parking. An 18 acre sports arena with a private golf course is planned alongside.

GMI IT Park

The group's next moves build on this base. The GMI IT Parkis planned as a bigger, campus style tech hub with Grade A office towers and a reported investment of about ₹700 crore. Alongside it, the GMI Logistics Parkis set to serve industrial and trade needs across North India. Both are at the early stages so we treat them as future plans.

GMI Elite Homes: Independent Floors on NH-205A

GMI Elite Homes is a gated Stilt plus 4 community on NH-205A in Banurwhich is facing the Bharatmala Highway corridor which is just opposite to Bharat Petroleum. Its Rera number is PBRERA-SAS81-PR169  It is spread over close to 20 acres and has 136 independent floors across 34 towers, each on a 200 sq. yard plot.

Nearby, families get easy access to Chitkara University, Amity University, Plaksha University and IISER Mohali for top notch education, Fortis Hospital Mohali for their healthcare and CP67 Mall, Starbucks and McDonald's for daily convenience.

GMI Platinum Square: A Shop on a Road That Never Sleeps

GMI Platinum Square sits on Banur-Landran Road, right beside GMI Elite Homes, facing the Bharatmala Road and next to Bharat Petroleum. It offers 45 SCO showroom plots of 18 x 78.5 feet and 6 bay shops of 10 x 40 feet, over close to 3.5 acres.

Domino's Pizza and Super Donutsalready run stores here. You can get the prelease showrooms here. This pulls in crowds which then benefits the whole property because once people come for the big brand, they may explore other shops too  since it shows the project already works as a functioning commercial hub.

Other features include 8 feet 3 inch wide corridors, lift access up to the roof, over 83,000 sq. ft. of open parking and  ramps at entry points for easy access.

So this is all about the GMI Infra's portfolio covering commercial, industrial and residential developments across Mohali.

Who Should Actually Consider a GMI Group Project?

Not every project here suits every buyer. It helps to think about this in simple terms.

  • End users who work in IT City Mohali and want a short commute will find GMI Elite Homes and GMI Residences both within easy reach of the tech corridor.
  • Investors looking for rental income from students and faculty may find GMI Residences useful, given its closeness to Amity and Plaksha University.
  • Shop owners or clinics that depend on highway footfall should look closely at GMI Platinum Square, where two anchor brands already draw daily crowds.
  • Buyers who prefer plot level ownership with township amenities, rather than an apartment, fit better with GMI Elite Homes than with a high rise tower.

Is GMI Group worth investing in for 2026?

Here is the honest picture. A family with decades of informal property dealing before a formal 2018 launch. A single 55 acre land purchase on a road that has only grown busier. Additionaly, live paying tenants at Platinum Square are there.

Furthermore, GMI Platinum Square is a premium commercial property located on NH-205A and the Bharatmala Expressway in SAS Nagar, MohaliHere a tower is under construction that will become Mohali's tallest residential property soon.

What Other Write-Ups on GMI Group Miss

Most articles on GMI Infra Groupstop at the project brochure. Three gaps stood out while researching this piece and  we have filled them here.

  • The group's newer pipeline, the GMI IT Park and GMI Logistics Park, rarely gets a mention, even though the IT Park alone carries a reported investment of about ₹700 crore.
  • Leadership background is usually skipped. Mohit Bansal's technical degree from a US university is a detail that shapes how the group plans its projects, yet almost no other write-up covers it.
  • Community and industry recognition such as the badminton tournament honour or the BRICS Chamber speaking slot that rarely appears anywhere, even though it shows how the family engages outside pure sales activity.

Covering these points does not change the price of a flat or a plot. It does give a buyer a fuller picture before they walk into a sales office.

GMI Infra Group: From Jewellery Boxes to Real Estate Landmarks

GMI Infra Group's story began with a family keeping its word in a gold shop in Chandigarh. That same trust carried into land and construction as it grew slowly through years of building and selling one villa at a time.

Today the GMI name is trusted not because of marketing but because the Bansal family earned it decades before they became developers. What started as a jewellery business has now grown into a serious Mohali developer backed by a 55-acre land bank with an ongoing growing portfolio.

The group is set to build the tallest residential tower alongside a live commercial hub at Platinum Square and is expanding further through a growing IT and logistics pipeline.
